چکیده

In this study, we explore the potential of Poly-DiMethylSiloxane (PDMS)-based phase shift lithography (PPSL) for the fabrication of nanofluidic devices. We establish that this technology, which was already shown to allow for the generation of 100 nm linear or punctual features over cm surfaces with conventional photolithography systems, is readily adequate to produce some of the most popular nanofluidic systems, namely nanochannels and nanoposts arrays. We also demonstrate that PPSL technology enables to generate PDMS and silicon nanofluidic systems. This technological achievement allows us to perform single DNA molecule manipulation experiments in PDMS and silicon nanochannels, and we observe an unexpectedly slow migration of DNA in PDMS devices, which is independent on salt or pH conditions. Our data in fact hint to the existence of an anomalous response of DNA in PDMS nanofluidic devices, which is likely associated to transient non-specific interactions of DNA with PDMS walls. Overall, our work demonstrates the efficiency and the performances of PPSL for prototyping nanofluidic systems.

High throughput fabrication of disposable nanofluidic lab-on-chip devices for single molecule studies.

An easy method is introduced allowing fast polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) replication of nanofluidic lab-on-chip devices using accurately fabricated molds featuring cross-sections down to 60 nm. A high quality master is obtained through proton beam writing and UV lithography. This master can be used more than 200 times to replicate nanofluidic devices capable of handling single DNA molecules. This...

Polymer embossing tools for rapid prototyping of plastic microfluidic devices

In this paper, we describe a simple and rapid method of fabricating hot embossing tools using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which are then used to rapidly fabricate microchannels in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). A negative photoepoxy SU-8 or thick positive photoresist AZ4620 on silicon was used for molding during PDMS casting. Fabrication time of these PDMS tools was considerably less than thos...

Polymer Embossing Tools for Rapid Prototyping of Plastic Microfluidic Devices

In this work, a new MEMS technology for hot embossing using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) tools is developed and characterized. The developed technology will permit low cost, simple, and rapid fabrication of disposable microfluidic biochips and plastic microstructures for numerous BioMEMS applications. For traditional planar systems, a negative photoepoxy (SU-8) or thick positive photoresist (AZ4...

Beyond PDMS: off-stoichiometry thiol-ene (OSTE) based soft lithography for rapid prototyping of microfluidic devices.

In this article we introduce a novel polymer platform based on off-stoichiometry thiol-enes (OSTEs), aiming to bridge the gap between research prototyping and commercial production of microfluidic devices. The polymers are based on the versatile UV-curable thiol-ene chemistry but takes advantage of off-stoichiometry ratios to enable important features for a prototyping system, such as one-step ...
